When Two Fly, One Flies Free

Title

When Two Fly, One Flies Free

Subject

Trans World Airlines advertisement 1979

Description

Transcontinental & Western Air began operating services between New York, St. Louis, and Los Angeles in 1925 and became Trans World Airlines in 1950 after successfully fighting to join Pan Am as America’s second international airline. Trans World operated a sophisticated fleet with premium services and designed revolutionary terminals at its hubs. After deregulation, however, Trans World joined other airlines in touting deals on fares, as in this advertisement, in addition to its high service levels. The airline barely survived into the twentieth century, merging with American at the beginning of 2001.
