Description

This Texas Western team was coached by Don Haskins. In 1965-66, they went to the national championship game and defeated Kentucky in College Park, Maryland on March 19. It was monumental game in the history of race and collegiate athletics. All five of Texas Western starters were black, while Kentucky's were white. Previously integrated teams usually started two or three black players at one time. The win signified a victory for civil rights and integration. This moment is considered to be a turning point in the history of all collegiate athletics and has been extensively covered in book, television, and films.
