Title

Transcribed Orders from Cammander in Chief Fidel Castro to His Subordinates during the Bay of Pigs invasion

Subject

Bay of Pigs

Description

The following four pages are orders Fidel Castro has sent to his subordinates during the Bay of Pigs invasion. Most are brief orders, like moving howitzers to a new position. The rhetoric in these messages is inspiring, as he urges Cpatain Fernandez to "Do your best to fire with the largest number of mortars possible, creating a barrage of fire." More importantly, these notes show that Castro was not just an idealistic leader, but had practical pragmatic military wherewithal. The revolution in 1959 was successful in part due to Castro's military prowess. Also, having been used guerrilla warfare tactics before, he knew the strategies of his enemies, which made him a dangerous foe.
