Title
Kennedy Addresses Bay of Pigs
Subject
Bay of Pigs
Description
This is a shortened version of the long winded speech Kennedy gave several days after the failed invasion. Kennedy. He points to the police state and its use of terror, aiming his rhetoric at Cuba. JFK asserts that the USA must still take "an ever closer and more realistic look at the menace of external communist intervention in Cuba." In the speech, Kennedy did not accept responsibility to the failure of his invasion, nor did he address the legality of his measures. Rather, in the longer version, Kennedy stressed that Cuban "patriots" had taken up arms against Castro's government and the U.S. forces were not involved.
