Washington and Lee in the 1960s

"Viet Conflict Picketing Scheduled"

This Ring Tum Phi article covered the planned picketing and pray-in at Washington and Lee University about the Vietnam Conflict in October, 1965. The event involved students and community members such as the reverend at R.E. Lee Episcopal Church. Protests at Universities across the country opposed the Vietnam War. W&L students protested in conjunction with the "Peace March" Weekend at the University of California and proceeded W&L's Homecoming weekend festivities. While the activist culture was not as active at Washington and Lee, the University was not exempt from the national anti-war sentiment on campuses across the country.
